Scott Boland is currently managing “wear and tear” in his knee, resulting in his absence from the bowling attack in the second innings of Victoria’s Sheffield Shield match against South Australia. Despite scans, they deem the issue not serious, and Victoria coach Chris Rogers describes it as “low-grade wear and tear” in Boland’s knee.
Scott Boland left the field during day one of the match at the Junction Oval after being unable to complete his 17th over. However, the precautionary scan revealed no major damage, indicating an “acute inflammatory signs around his patella tendon.”

In Boland’s absence, South Australia reached 66 for 2 at stumps on day two, trailing Victoria by 49 runs. Victoria had earlier secured a 115-run first-innings lead, with Nic Maddinson making a remarkable comeback century. This marked Maddinson’s return to Sheffield Shield cricket since suffering an anterior cruciate ligament rupture during a BBL game on New Year’s Day in 2023.
Maddinson, who had a challenging BBL season with the Melbourne Renegades, showcased his class with a century in the longer format of the game. The left-hander scored 104, contributing significantly to Victoria’s first-innings total, surpassing South Australia’s 173. Liam Scott was the standout bowler for the Redbacks, claiming 4 for 18.
Boland, known for his heroics in the 2021 Boxing Day Test, has been limited in game appearances recently and last played for Victoria in the Shield in November. Although absent from bowling in the ongoing match, they consider the issue manageable, expecting Boland to recover without significant concerns.
