They are still finalizing the financial details of Gautam Gambhir’s appointment as India’s head coach, but he is primarily focused on assembling a support staff to tackle the challenges ahead during his three-year tenure.

On Tuesday, BCCI secretary Jay Shah officially announced Gautam Gambhir’s long-anticipated appointment. However, they have not yet confirmed his salary, though they expect it to be similar to that of previous head coaches Rahul Dravid and Ravi Shastri.
A BCCI insider mentioned that Gautam Gambhir prioritized taking charge and will settle his salary and other details later, similar to Ravi Shastri’s appointment as Director of Cricket in 2014. At that time, Ravi Shastri joined without a contract, which they sorted out later. They expect Gautam Gambhir’s salary to be in the same range as Rahul Dravid’s.
Gautam Gambhir will have his own team, which will work closely with the National Cricket Academy (NCA) coaches. The NCA coaches manage the India A and U-19 teams, along with other targeted players.
“I look forward to working closely with the BCCI, Head of Cricket – Mr. VVS Laxman, the support staff, and, most importantly, the players, as we strive for success in upcoming tournaments,” Gautam Gambhir said.
VVS Laxman is currently in Zimbabwe with the young T20 team, but upon his return, he will join the NCA head, the new head coach, chairman of selectors Ajit Agarkar, and captains Rohit Sharma and Hardik Pandya to discuss the future plans.
