Saurabh Netravalkar Regrets Dropping Suryakumar Yadav’s Catch

The ICC T20 World Cup 2024 encounter between India and co-hosts USA at Nassau County Stadium reached a critical juncture in the 13th over of India’s chase. Suryakumar Yadav, batting well on 22, mistimed a shot off Shadley van Schalkwyk’s delivery, offering a catch to USA’s Saurabh Netravalkar at short third man. However, Netravalkar couldn’t hold on, granting Yadav a second chance.

This missed opportunity proved pivotal as Yadav went on to score an unbeaten 50 off 49 balls, forming a crucial partnership of 67 runs with Shivam Dube. India successfully chased down USA’s modest total of 110, winning by seven wickets with 10 balls to spare.

Reflecting on the match, Netravalkar took responsibility for dropping the catch, acknowledging its potential impact on the game’s outcome. Despite his early breakthroughs, dismissing Virat Kohli for a duck and Rohit Sharma soon after, Netravalkar’s figures of 2/18 couldn’t prevent India’s victory.

USA’s bowling coach, Stuart Law, lamented the missed chance as a turning point against a strong Indian batting lineup. Furthermore, he stressed the importance of early wickets and expressed the need to bowl India out to enhance their chances.

Despite the defeat, Netravalkar has been a standout performer for USA in the tournament, demonstrating his skill even in high-pressure situations like the Super Over against Pakistan. With one group game remaining against Ireland, Netravalkar and USA still have a chance to qualify for the Super Eight stage.

“I love my job at Oracle, and cricket is my passion. I relish every moment on the field, bowling every delivery. I’m fortunate to pursue what I love,” Netravalkar concluded optimistically.
