Sanju Samson Shines with Blistering Century as India Secures Dominant T20I Win Over South Africa

Sanju Samson, in remarkable form, has scored three centuries in his last six competitive games, including a standout performance in the Duleep Trophy. The in-form India wicketkeeper-batsman is maximizing his opportunities and making the most of his peak form. His explosive 107 off just 50 balls against South Africa marked his second consecutive T20I century, following a 111-run knock against Bangladesh the previous month. These performances have allowed Samson to shake off the label of underperformer.

After India’s 61-run victory over South Africa in the first T20I, Samson expressed his satisfaction. “I really enjoyed my time out there in the middle,” he said, attributing his success to making the most of his current form. He was awarded Player of the Match for his efforts.

Reflecting on his journey, Samson revealed how deeply he values this phase. “If I think a lot, I get emotional,” he admitted. “I waited for this moment for 10 years. I’m very happy, grateful, and blessed. But I want to stay grounded, live in the moment, and enjoy it,” he added.

Samson’s departure, however, slowed down India’s momentum. In the last five overs, India managed only 35 more runs, with South African bowlers effectively containing the batting lineup. Nonetheless, India set a target of 203, a formidable challenge for the visitors.

South Africa, under pressure from the outset, struggled to keep up with the required run rate, which stayed well above 10 runs per over. Regular wickets kept their momentum in check, with Varun Chakravarthy and Ravi Bishnoi starring for India, each taking three wickets. Ultimately, South Africa could only muster 141, giving India a comfortable victory and a strong start to the series.
