Sanju Samson is on the verge of equaling an unwanted record held by Virat Kohli in the fourth T20I against South Africa at Johannesburg’s Wanderers Stadium. India, led by Suryakumar Yadav, will face the Proteas in the series decider, with the scoreline poised at 2-1, setting up an exciting finale at the iconic bullring.

Samson, who revitalized his T20I career with back-to-back centuries, has struggled in the ongoing series, registering consecutive ducks in Gqeberha and Centurion. The experienced keeper-batter from Kerala currently has six T20I ducks to his name. If he fails to score in the upcoming match, he will equal Kohli’s tally of seven ducks—the second-most by an Indian batter in T20Is.
The list of most T20I ducks for India is, notably, topped by Rohit Sharma, who has 12 ducks in 151 innings. Meanwhile, Kohli, with seven ducks in 117 innings, holds the second spot. Following him, Samson occupies third place with six ducks in just 32 innings. Furthermore, KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer round off the top five with five and four ducks, respectively.
Despite his recent setbacks, Samson has shown the ability to bounce back. He began the South Africa series with a scintillating century in Durban but found left-arm pacer Marco Jansen too challenging, falling to him for ducks in the last two matches. As the action shifts to Johannesburg, Samson will aim to turn his form around and deliver an impactful performance for India in the crucial decider.
