Samson sustained the injury while facing a sharp delivery from Jofra Archer. Although he continued batting after receiving medical attention, Dhruv Jurel replaced him as wicketkeeper for the remainder of the match. The injury ruled Samson out of Kerala’s Ranji Trophy quarter-final clash against Jammu & Kashmir, which began in Pune on February 8.

Recovery Timeline and IPL 2025 Chances

According to ESPN Cricinfo, Samson underwent surgery on Tuesday and is likely to need about a month for full recovery. With proper rehabilitation, the Rajasthan Royals captain is expected to be fit before the IPL 2025 season begins. His return will provide a significant boost to the Royals as they prepare for the tournament.

Recent Form and Future Assignments

Samson struggled during the recent T20I series against England, scoring just 51 runs in five matches at an average of 10.20. As a result, he missed out on selection for India’s Champions Trophy squad, with the selectors opting for KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant as wicketkeepers.

With no immediate international assignments, Samson’s focus is now on IPL 2025, where he will captain the Rajasthan Royals. Fans will hope for a strong comeback from the dynamic batter as he leads the team in the upcoming season.
