Rohit Sharma Becomes Father of a Baby Boy; Increases Likelihood of Playing in First BGT Test

India captain Rohit Sharma has welcomed a baby boy, and this development has raised hopes of his availability for the upcoming first Test against Australia, starting November 22 in Perth. Rohit’s wife, Ritika Sajdeh, gave birth to their second child on Friday night at a local hospital. The couple, already parents to a daughter named Samaira, had delayed Rohit’s travel to Australia as Ritika was expecting their baby.

With less than a week remaining until the Test, it remains uncertain whether Rohit, after just a couple of practice sessions, will be ready to play. However, there is still a chance he could join the team in time for the match. Head coach Gautam Gambhir expressed optimism about Rohit’s participation, acknowledging the importance of having the captain and opening batter back in the squad, as India’s top order is currently in a fragile state.

Rohit’s form has been inconsistent recently, but his experience and leadership are vital, especially with the uncertainty surrounding his opening partners. KL Rahul is recovering from an elbow injury, while Abhimanyu Easwaran has struggled against bounce and seam movement. Yashasvi Jaiswal, however, seems to be the frontrunner for the opening spot.

In Rohit’s absence, India has been preparing for the Perth Test by simulating the conditions at the old WACA Stadium. The team is focusing on getting accustomed to the pace and bounce expected at the Perth Stadium. Key players, including Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah, and Rishabh Pant, are participating in these practice sessions as India aims to win the series Down Under for the third consecutive time.
