Mumbai’s 17-year-old batting prodigy, Ayush Mhatre, shared an emotional message for his childhood hero, Rohit Sharma, after the Indian captain returned to domestic cricket for the ongoing Ranji Trophy 2024-25 season. Mhatre, who plays for Mumbai under the leadership of Ajinkya Rahane, is teammates with Sharma in the match against Jammu and Kashmir at the BKC Stadium.

Taking to social media on January 24, Mhatre posted a picture with the legendary opener and expressed his admiration for Sharma, writing: “Started playing cricket by watching him bat on television to sharing a dressing room with my idol was such an unreal moment.”
Mhatre’s debut season in the Ranji Trophy has been impressive, amassing 441 first-class runs with an average of 40.09. In List A cricket, he averages an even higher 65.42. His performance this season shows great promise for the future.
Sharma, meanwhile, faced a tough return to domestic cricket. On Day 1 of the match, Umar Nazir dismissed Sharma for just three runs after he mistimed a short delivery. Mumbai folded for only 120 runs in their first innings, marking a disappointing start to Sharma’s Ranji Trophy return. Despite this, Mhatre’s heartfelt message underscores the significance of playing alongside his idol in the dressing room.
