Abhishek Sharma has achieved a career-high ranking in T20I cricket, jumping 38 places to become the No. 2 batter in the latest ICC rankings. The explosive left-hander overtook teammate Tilak Varma, who slipped to No. 3 as young Indian batters continue to dominate the charts.
Abhishek Closes in on Top Spot
Australia’s Travis Head remains the No. 1 T20I batter, but Abhishek is rapidly closing the gap. His rise comes after a sensational century in the fifth T20I against England, where he smashed a 54-ball 135, including 13 sixes. His innings was higher than England’s entire total and set multiple records, including the highest individual T20I score by an Indian batter.
Tilak Varma Slips to No. 3
Tilak Varma played a key role in India’s victory in the second T20I against England. However, inconsistent performances in the remaining matches caused him to drop to No. 3. His previous No. 2 ranking came during the England series, but Abhishek’s explosive form has now overtaken him.
Chakravarthy Rises in Bowling Rankings
Varun Chakravarthy also saw a significant rise in the ICC rankings after a dominant series against England. The wily spinner finished as the leading wicket-taker with 14 scalps, propelling him three spots up to joint No. 2 in the T20I bowlers’ rankings.
With 705 rating points, Chakravarthy is just two points behind West Indies’ Akeal Hosein (707). A strong performance in upcoming matches could see him claim the top spot.
