The teenage opener showcased incredible talent, smashing a brilliant half-century off just 52 balls. This feat made Konstas the third Australian player to score the fastest fifty on Test debut, joining Adam Gilchrist and Ashton Agar in an elite list. His innings lit up the Melbourne crowd and set the tone for Australia’s strong start.

Opening the innings with Usman Khawaja, Konstas displayed remarkable confidence from the outset. Facing a formidable Indian bowling attack, including Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj, he countered with aggressive stroke play. In the 14th over, Konstas reached his milestone with a well-placed two off Siraj, securing his half-century and etching his name in the record books.

Fastest Test Debut Half-Centuries for Australia:

  • Adam Gilchrist (46 balls, vs. Pakistan, 1999)
  • Ashton Agar (50 balls, vs. England, 2013)
  • Sam Konstas (52 balls, vs. India, 2024)

India, eager to bounce back after a draw in Brisbane, struggled to make early breakthroughs. However, Ravindra Jadeja eventually dismissed Konstas after his impressive knock of 60 runs off 65 balls. At the close of the 20th over, Australia stood strong at 89/1, with Khawaja unbeaten on 28 and Marnus Labuschagne joining him at the crease.

Konstas’ sensational debut innings promises a bright future, further elevating the excitement in this gripping Test series.
