Oman have announced their 17-member squad for next month’s Asia Cup, which marks their first appearance in the tournament. The squad includes four uncapped players – Sufyan Yousuf, Zikria Islam, Faisal Shah, and Nadeem Khan – while experienced opener Jatinder Singh will lead the side.
Head coach Duleep Mendis described the Asia Cup as a historic moment for Oman cricket. “It is real that we are participating in the Asia Cup – a major tournament and a fantastic opportunity for our players to showcase their skills on a global stage,” he said. “Facing teams like India and Pakistan is special for any cricketer. In T20 cricket, one brilliant over can change the entire game.”
Mendis also highlighted the team’s preparations, which include competitive matches in the ongoing National T20 tournament and intense training sessions. He stressed the importance of mental toughness, noting that handling pressure against world-class opponents will be as important as technical skills.
Oman enter the competition with a blend of youth and experience, aiming to make an impression against some of Asia’s strongest sides. Their Group A campaign begins against Pakistan on September 12, followed by matches against UAE on September 15 and India on September 19.
This will be Oman’s second major multi-nation event after featuring in the T20 World Cup last year. Their most recent international outing came in the Men’s Cricket World Cup League 2, held in Lauderhill, USA, in May.
