'Sadly, We Didn't Think Clearly' - Shoaib Akhtar Reacts to Pakistan's Narrow Loss to India in New York

Former speedster Shoaib Akhtar expressed his profound disappointment in a 121-second clip on his YouTube channel titled “Pakistan Did Their Best To Lose.” He noted that India’s middle order collapse constrained what could’ve been a substantially higher total.

Akhtar, who won 19 out of 38 games against India across all formats, highlighted the pivotal role of wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan, who top-scored with 31 runs. He suggested that had Rizwan prolonged his innings and scored a few more runs, Pakistan would’ve emerged victorious. Akhtar lamented the lack of strategic acumen displayed by Pakistan during the match.

“Very disappointing. It was a run-a-ball chance for Pakistan. India’s middle-order messed it up. They were 80-odd in 11 overs and could’ve achieved around 160, but couldn’t. Rizwan could’ve scored another 20 runs and won the game. Sadly, we didn’t apply our brains,” Akhtar stated.

Akhtar questioned the team’s intent and application, deeming them questionable. He underscored Pakistan’s comfortable position, with runs within reach and wickets in hand, asserting that victory should’ve been theirs. Ultimately, he confessed to being rendered speechless and deeply perturbed by the outcome, concluding, “I’m speechless and hurt, that’s about it.”
