Chennai Super Kings (CSK) skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad showcased his batting prowess with a scintillating unbeaten knock of 108* off just 60 deliveries in their IPL 2024 match against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). Despite Gaikwad’s IPL 2024 century, CSK suffered a six-wicket defeat at the hands of KL Rahul’s visiting team in Chennai.

However, Gaikwad’s century also saw him join an ‘unwanted’ club in IPL history. This was Ruturaj Gaikwad’s second century of his IPL career, with his maiden ton coming back in October 2021 when he scored 101* against Rajasthan Royals in Abu Dhabi. Remarkably, both of Gaikwad’s centuries ended in defeats for the CSK franchise, a feat that aligns him with the likes of RCB’s Virat Kohli, RR’s Sanju Samson, and former Punjab Kings opener Hashim Amla, all of whom have scored more than one IPL losing hundred.
Despite the bittersweet outcome, Gaikwad’s century also earned him a place in CSK history books as only the third player to score two centuries for the franchise, joining the esteemed company of former players Murali Vijay and Shane Watson.
Looking ahead, Gaikwad will lead his CSK side in their next CSK vs SRH IPL 2024 encounter on April 28. With four wins from eight league fixtures so far, CSK sits at number five on the IPL 2024 points table under Gaikwad’s leadership.
