Rohit Sharma’s captaincy on the ongoing Australian tour has been under pressure due to his struggles with the bat. In three innings so far, the India Test captain has managed only a highest score of 10 runs. Pat Cummins has found multiple ways to dismiss Sharma, and the Indian skipper must adapt if India hopes to win the series.

In the Gabba Test, India struggled during the first three days, but in a similar fashion to the previous Australian tour, they mounted a strong comeback to salvage a draw. At one point, a win seemed possible, but rain ended the match in a draw.
Ahead of the next Test at the MCG, Rohit Sharma worked hard in the nets to regain form. However, he continued to struggle against short-pitched deliveries. After some difficulties, he regained confidence and played a few impressive shots.
With the series now evenly poised, India will feel more comfortable in the upcoming matches at the MCG and SCG. These venues have been favorable to India, with the team not having lost at the MCG since the 2011-12 series and winning on their last two tours. The drop-in pitches at the MCG, which are less bouncy than the surfaces at the Gabba and Perth, should also play to India’s strengths.
As the series progresses, India’s chances of victory hinge on Rohit Sharma overcoming his struggles and leading from the front. The team’s performance in the familiar conditions of the MCG and SCG will be crucial to their success in the remainder of the series.
