Speculation surrounding India’s squad selection for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024 went into overdrive after reports emerged of a meeting between captain Rohit Sharma, BCCI chief selector Ajit Agarkar, and head coach Rahul Dravid. However, Rohit Sharma himself has doused the flames of these rumors, calling them entirely fabricated.

In a lighthearted response, Rohit clarified that Agarkar was likely enjoying a round of golf in Dubai, while Dravid was presumably focused on his sons’ cricket practice in Mumbai. He emphasized that any news regarding selection should come directly from the BCCI or the concerned individuals, urging fans not to fall prey to media speculation.
The reports also hinted at the possibility of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli opening the batting for India at the T20 World Cup. Kohli, currently the leading run-scorer in IPL 2024, has been in exceptional form. Rohit, too, has displayed consistency, recently scoring a century for the Mumbai Indians. However, questions remain regarding Hardik Pandya’s inclusion, given his underwhelming performance with both bat and ball in the IPL.
When asked about a player he would love to have in the squad for pure entertainment value, Rohit didn’t hesitate to pick Rishabh Pant. He lauded Pant’s wit and humor, especially behind the stumps, highlighting how his antics bring laughter and a unique personality to the team.
With the bitter taste of the 2023 ODI World Cup final loss still lingering, Team India is hungry to break their ICC trophy drought in the upcoming T20 World Cup. The final squad selection, whenever officials announce it, will significantly influence their path to victory.
