BCCI Secretary Jay Shah released a video on Sunday thanking Team India coach Rahul Dravid, captain Rohit Sharma, and the players for their outstanding triumph in the recently concluded 2024 T20 World Cup. India secured their second T20 World Cup title by defeating South Africa by 7 runs in the final, their first win since MS Dhoni’s team won the inaugural tournament in 2007.

Shah dedicated the victory to the retiring Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Ravindra Jadeja, and outgoing coach Rahul Dravid. These three senior players announced their retirement from T20 international cricket following the World Cup win. Dravid’s coaching tenure also ended in Barbados, finishing on a high note with the ICC trophy, which India won after an 11-year gap. Shah confirmed in the video that Rohit will continue to captain India in Tests and ODIs.
“I want to dedicate this victory to Rahul Dravid, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Ravindra Jadeja. After this victory, the next stage is the 2025 WTC final and the Champions Trophy. I am confident that under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma, we will win the WTC Final and the Champions Trophy,” Shah said.
Last year in Ahmedabad, Shah promised that the Indian flag would be planted in Barbados under Rohit’s captaincy in the T20 World Cup, and Rohit fulfilled that promise by winning the final in Bridgetown. Shah was present when Rohit planted the Indian tricolour on the ground. They now aim to repeat this success in Pakistan and Lord’s after the ICT and WTC finals next year.
