Rishabh Pant Set for Ranji Trophy Return; Virat Kohli's Participation Unclear

Following India’s series defeat to Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT), the Indian team faced heavy criticism for their batting performances. In response, the management encouraged senior players to participate in the Ranji Trophy to regain form and confidence. The Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) also requested Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant to join the squad. While Pant has agreed, Kohli’s availability remains uncertain.

“Rishabh Pant has confirmed his availability for Delhi’s Ranji Trophy game against Saurashtra in Rajkot,” DDCA secretary Ashok Sharma told The Indian Express. This will mark Pant’s first appearance in the tournament since the 2017-18 final against Vidarbha.

Meanwhile, Virat Kohli’s participation is still unclear. The DDCA’s probable squad for the upcoming match featured Kohli, Pant, and Harshit Rana. However, DDCA chairman Rakesh Bansal revealed that Kohli hasn’t yet responded to their request.

Harshit Rana, listed in the probable squad, won’t be available for the Ranji game as he is part of India’s T20I squad for the upcoming series against England starting January 22.

Several other Indian stars are also expected to feature in the Ranji Trophy to sharpen their skills. Players like Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, and Rohit Sharma are likely to participate in the domestic competition. The management hopes these games will help players regain form ahead of major international assignments.
