Lucknow Super Giants to decide captaincy before Bengaluru match

The upcoming clash between Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the IPL 2024 season raises questions about the availability of LSG’s regular captain, KL Rahul.

KL Rahul's, Lucknow Super Giants to decide captaincy before Bengaluru match

In the previous match against Punjab Kings, concerns over KL Rahul’s lingering quadricep injury led to his substitution, with Nicholas Pooran assuming captaincy. LSG’s management is now carefully considering Rahul’s fitness ahead of their encounter with RCB, mindful of his recent injury struggles that saw him miss the final four Tests against England earlier this year.

During practice sessions, Rahul refrained from wicketkeeping duties and focused on full-body movements under the supervision of head coach Justin Langer. Additionally, he participated in batting drills and underwent mobility exercises, indicating his possible return to action.

Speaking about the potential absence of Rahul, stand-in captain Nicholas Pooran acknowledged the challenges of adjusting team combinations but expressed confidence in the senior players’ ability to step up in such situations. He highlighted the collective effort among the team members to fill the leadership void left by Rahul’s absence.

As LSG prepares to face RCB, currently sitting in sixth place with two points from two matches, the role Rahul will play in the upcoming game remains uncertain. His presence would undoubtedly bolster LSG’s lineup, but the team will prioritize his fitness and well-being before making a final decision.
