Rishabh Pant added another glorious chapter to his already impressive IPL career on April 12 during the Delhi Capitals’ (DC) away clash against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in Lucknow. Leading his team in the 26th match of IPL 2024, the dynamic wicketkeeper-batsman formed a crucial 50-plus partnership with Jake Fraser-McGurk as the Capitals chased down their target comfortably.
More importantly, Pant’s knock held a significant milestone. During his innings, he achieved the coveted feat of surpassing 3,000 IPL runs, etching his name as the 25th cricketer in the tournament’s history to reach this prestigious landmark.
A Stellar Comeback Season: Returning to competitive cricket after a near 15-month hiatus, Pant marked his comeback in IPL 2024 with a bang. He impressed everyone with consecutive half-centuries against CSK and KKR in Vizag. This stellar form continued in the match against LSG at Lucknow’s Ekana Stadium, where he completed his monumental 3,000th IPL run.
Pant reached this milestone during the 11th over of the Delhi Capitals innings, nudging a single off Ravi Bishnoi to reach 9*. This achievement also placed him among an elite group – the sixth specialist wicketkeeper-batsman to reach the 3,000 run mark in the IPL. He joins the esteemed company of legends like MS Dhoni, Dinesh Karthik, KL Rahul, Sanju Samson, and Quinton de Kock.
While Pant was eventually dismissed by the combined efforts of KL Rahul and Ravi Bishnoi, departing at 41, his contribution was immense. His IPL tally now stands at an impressive 3,032 runs from just 104 matches, boasting an average of nearly 35.
