India kicked off their T20 World Cup 2024 campaign in dominant fashion, securing a convincing eight-wicket victory over Ireland in their opening match on Wednesday.

Electing to bowl first, the Indian bowling attack displayed exceptional control, restricting Ireland to a mere 96 runs. This dominant display sets the tone for India’s World Cup journey.
While India’s bowling attack stole the show, a lighter moment emerged during the fielding stint. The passionate Indian crowd erupted in chants of “Kohli ko bowling do” (Give the ball to Kohli) when Virat Kohli was positioned near the boundary line.
This chant gained popularity during the 2023 World Cup, reflecting fans’ desire to see Kohli bowl. However, Kohli, who joined the team late and missed the warm-up match, had a forgettable batting start to the tournament. Opening alongside Rohit Sharma, he could only manage a single run before being dismissed by Mark Adair.
In contrast, Rohit Sharma displayed grit and determination, scoring a well-fought half-century before retiring hurt due to an injury scare.
With a comprehensive victory under their belt, India currently sits atop Group A. Their next challenge will be a highly anticipated clash against arch-rivals Pakistan in New York.
