Cummins, Australia’s Test and ODI captain, received the Sir Garfield Sobers Award from Ponting as they began the second round of their T20 World Cup campaign. Cummins led Australia to a historic year in 2023, winning their first-ever ICC World Test Championship at The Oval with a commanding victory over India. Under Cummins’ leadership, Australia clinched the ICC Cricket World Cup, overcoming a challenging start to the tournament and ultimately defeating India in the final. In 2023, Cummins played 13 ODIs, taking 17 wickets with an economy of 5.74, and 11 Tests, where he claimed 42 wickets, including three five-wicket hauls and a 10-wicket match haul.

Cummins also contributed crucial runs in Tests, including a match-winning 44* in the first Ashes Test at Birmingham, forming a 55-run partnership with Nathan Lyon for the 9th wicket in a 282-run chase. In ODIs, he averaged 42 with the bat while batting lower down the order.
