Glamorgan has appointed Richard Dawson as interim head coach following Grant Bradburn’s sudden departure last month amid allegations of discriminatory behavior.

Dawson brings extensive experience, recently working with England’s white-ball coaching team and previously leading the England Under-19s. His coaching journey includes six years with Gloucestershire, where he achieved notable success, including promotion to Division One in 2019 and a T20 Finals Day appearance in 2020. In 2021, Dawson joined the ECB’s performance pathway team, further cementing his reputation as a capable leader.
Dawson expressed enthusiasm, saying, “I’m delighted to join Glamorgan as head coach for the upcoming season. My experience with Welsh Fire over the years has given me a strong understanding of how the club operates.” I’m excited to work with the players and coaches and build on last season’s success in the 50-over competition.”
As a player, Dawson represented England in seven Tests and spent most of his career at Yorkshire, with brief stints at Northamptonshire and Gloucestershire.
Currently working with the England Lions in Australia, Dawson will join Glamorgan in March after fulfilling commitments at the Women’s Premier League. He will continue as Welsh Fire’s assistant coach during The Hundred, with Glamorgan set to announce a replacement for the One-Day Cup—won by the club last year—in due course.
Mark Wallace, Glamorgan’s director of cricket, praised the appointment, saying, “Securing a coach of Richard Dawson’s caliber as interim head coach is fantastic for the club. His expertise makes him the ideal candidate to develop the squad and continue our progress this season.”
Dawson’s appointment marks a promising step for Glamorgan as they aim to build on their recent successes.
