The India tour has seen the abrupt departure of nineteen-year-old cricketer Rehan Ahmed due to an urgent family matter. Despite the fourth Test in Ranchi commencing on Friday, this unexpected departure occurred despite his non-selection.

Ahmed’s departure from the tour is unrelated to his omission from the playing XI, as the need to return home arose after the team announcement.
He will depart from India on Friday, and England’s squad will not receive a replacement player.
Ahmed’s exit reduces England’s travelling squad to 14 players for the remaining two Tests.
For the fourth Test, the team retains its two primary spinners, Shoaib Bashir and Tom Hartley.
Rehan Ahmed made history as the youngest player to debut in Test cricket for England at the age of 18 during a match against Pakistan in Karachi in December 2022.
Throughout the current tour, the Leicestershire cricketer has featured in all three Tests, securing 11 wickets.
While England has fielded three frontline spinners in two of the initial three Tests, it is unlikely that this strategy will continue in the fifth Test in Dharamsala. Conditions are anticipated to be more favorable for seam bowling.
The England team has faced several setbacks during the tour, including batter Harry Brook’s withdrawal before the series due to personal reasons and senior spinner Jack Leach’s departure following a knee injury sustained in the first Test.
