Royal Challengers Bangalore secured their opening win in the 2024 Women’s Premier League (WPL) against UP Warriorz. Sobhana Asha’s remarkable bowling performance, claiming five wickets, was instrumental in RCB’s victory. The match, witnessed by a sold-out crowd, mirrored the excitement of the league’s first game, which saw Mumbai Indians triumph over the Delhi Capitals in a last-ball finish.
In pursuit of 158 runs, UP Warriorz required 11 runs off the last nine balls. A resilient partnership between Grace Harris (38) and Shweta Sehrawat (31) brought UP close to victory after a shaky start at 49/3. However, Poonam Khemnar’s quick cameo with three boundaries brought UP within touching distance before they faltered.
RCB’s batting duo of Richa Ghosh (62 runs) and S Meghana (53) rescued the team from a precarious position of 54/3, following early dismissals of Smriti Mandhana, Sophie Devine, and Ellyse Perry. Their partnership helped RCB set a competitive target of 158 runs.
