Heavy rain has halted the 32nd match of The Hundred 2024 between Birmingham Phoenix Women and Manchester Originals Women at Edgbaston. As the rain intensified, the umpires removed the stumps, and the players left the field. As of 8:40 PM IST, the situation looked bleak, with the downpour continuing in Birmingham. Groundsmen quickly covered the pitch to protect the playing area.
If the rain persists, the match could see a reduction in the number of balls, potentially impacting the outcome. There’s also concern that if the weather doesn’t improve, the highly anticipated men’s match between Birmingham Phoenix and Manchester Originals, scheduled for later in the evening, could face cancellation.
Before the rain interruption, Birmingham Phoenix Women were at 98/2 after 70 balls. Although both teams are out of playoff contention, they are eager to end their campaigns on a positive note. Led by Ellyse Perry, Birmingham Phoenix Women currently sit seventh in the points table, with three wins and four losses from seven games.
