Rachin Ravindra’s Double Century Puts New Zealand in Control Against South Africa

Rachin Ravindra showcased an exceptional performance with the bat, scoring a career-best double century of 240 runs, as New Zealand dominated the first Test against an inexperienced South African side in Mount Maunganui. Ravindra’s innings guided the home team to a total of 511, with captain Kane Williamson also contributing with a century (118). In response, South Africa struggled, especially their top order, collapsing to 80-4 by the end of day two.

Rachin Ravindra, who began the day on 118, continued his splendid form, striking 26 fours and one six in his 366-ball innings. This innings marked a significant turnaround for Ravindra in Test cricket, surpassing his previous highest score of 18 in six Test innings. The left-hander’s partnership with Kane Williamson and later with Daryl Mitchell (34) propelled New Zealand to a commanding position.

South Africa, featuring six players new to international cricket, faced a challenging task against New Zealand’s bowling attack.
