Quetta Gladiators clinched a thrilling victory over Karachi Kings in the Pakistan Super League, with Sherfane Rutherford playing a pivotal role in their win. Rutherford’s unbeaten half-century, scoring 58 runs off just 31 balls, propelled Quetta Gladiators to chase down Karachi’s target of 166, securing their fourth win in five matches.

Despite a solid start from Karachi’s James Vince and Tim Seifert in the powerplay, their innings faltered against Quetta Gladiators spinners, leading to a total of 165 for 8. Karachi’s lineup was depleted due to the absence of key players like Mir Hamza, Tabraiz Shamsi, and Leus du Plooy, who were sidelined due to a viral infection, with du Plooy even hospitalized.
Quetta Gladiators chase encountered a stumbling block when they found themselves at 89 for 5 in the 12th over, with key wickets falling, including that of half-centurion Jason Roy. However, Rutherford’s aggressive batting, supported by Akeal Hosein, turned the tide in Quetta Gladiators favor. Rutherford’s explosive hitting, particularly his sixes, guided Quetta to victory, culminating in a boundary off the final ball of the match.
In Karachi’s innings, Quetta Gladiators left-arm spinner Hosein dismissed Shan Masood for just 2 runs in the opening over, extending Masood’s struggles. Despite Vince’s aggressive innings, featuring eight fours, Karachi’s momentum suffered a setback due to Usman Tariq’s bowling. Tariq made an impact by claiming crucial wickets in his first over.
Additionally, Abrar Ahmed’s effective bowling in the death overs further hindered Karachi’s progress, with key batsmen like Kieron Pollard falling to his spin. Anwar Ali provided some late resistance with an unbeaten 25 runs, but Quetta ultimately emerged victorious.
