In Victoria’s Sheffield Shield match against Tasmania in Hobart, Will Pucovski had to retire hurt after a Riley Meredith bouncer struck him severely on the helmet.

Pucovski faced only the second delivery of his innings when the short ball struck him, causing him to immediately drop to his knees on the crease. Despite the Cricket Australia doctor and Victoria physio quickly attending to him, Pucovski was able to walk off the field unaided after some time to compose himself.
In response to the incident, Campbell Kellaway was brought into the XI as the concussion substitute. The match, now in its fourth innings, sees Victoria chasing a challenging target of 442 runs.
According to a statement from Cricket Victoria, Pucovski is currently under observation by medical staff, with further updates expected later.
Pucovski has a history of suffering multiple concussions throughout his career, and his recent return from another injury spell underscores the seriousness of the situation. Despite his cricketing setbacks, Pucovski has also been open about his struggles with mental health, highlighting the interconnectedness between mental well-being and physical injuries.
In a recent interview on the Vic State Cricket podcast, Pucovski expressed the challenges he has faced and his ongoing journey to understand and address them fully.
While Pucovski’s cricketing career has seen interruptions due to injuries and mental health concerns, he remains a promising talent, having represented Australia in one Test match against India at the SCG in early 2021.
