IPL 2025: 3 Overseas Players SRH Should Target to Strengthen Their Squad

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) have retained five players ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction, including three overseas stars: Heinrich Klaasen, Travis Head, and captain Pat Cummins. These retentions cost SRH INR 46 crore, leaving them with a remaining purse of INR 45 crore from the total budget of INR 120 crore.

IPL 2025: 3 Overseas Players SRH Should Target to Strengthen Their Squad

Despite retaining a strong core, SRH lack quality spinners—a critical component for success in the IPL. Spinners are match-winners, especially on Indian pitches, and having reliable wicket-taking options is essential for a deep playoff run. With this in mind, SRH could target the following three overseas players in the upcoming mega auction, scheduled for November 24-25.

1. Jonny Bairstow

The England wicketkeeper-batter, who previously represented SRH, could be a valuable addition. Bairstow’s versatility allows him to open or bat at No. 3, providing explosive starts and anchoring the innings. His ability to dominate in powerplays could strengthen SRH’s top order, while his wicketkeeping skills offer added utility. Pairing Bairstow with Klaasen would give SRH a dependable batting and keeping combination for high-pressure games.

2. Mitchell Santner

The left-arm spinner is an underrated match-winner. In 18 IPL matches, Santner has claimed 15 wickets with an impressive economy of 6.92. His recent Test success against India highlights his capabilities, making him a strong candidate to anchor SRH’s spin department. Additionally, Santner’s lower-order batting adds depth to the lineup, making him a dual-threat option.

3. Noor Ahmad

Afghanistan’s chinaman spinner Noor Ahmad has excelled in the IPL, picking up 24 wickets in 23 matches at an economy of 8.04. As a young, dynamic bowler, Noor offers long-term potential. His variations and ability to deliver under pressure make him an ideal fit for SRH’s evolving bowling attack.

Targeting these players could address SRH’s weaknesses and set them up for IPL 2025 success.
