Ahead of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2025, Mumbai Indians (MI) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) have suffered injury setbacks. Pooja Vastrakar and Asha Sobhana have been ruled out, forcing their teams to find last-minute replacements. With just a day before the tournament, both franchises are dealing with unexpected blows.
Mumbai Indians have named Parunika Sisodia as Vastrakar’s replacement, while RCB have signed Nuzhat Parween in place of Sobhana. The nature and extent of their injuries remain undisclosed, but their respective medical teams have confirmed that neither will take part in WPL 2025.
Parunika was previously part of Gujarat Giants in the inaugural WPL season and now joins the 2023 champions, Mumbai Indians. Meanwhile, Parween, a wicketkeeper for Railways, has represented India in five T20Is and joins RCB at her base price of ₹30 lakh.
Asha Sobhana played a crucial role in RCB’s WPL 2024 triumph. The mystery spinner picked up 12 wickets in 10 matches, proving to be a game-changer. Her absence will be a significant loss for RCB, as she was one of their key wicket-taking options.
Pooja Vastrakar’s all-round abilities will also be missed by MI. A vital member of the Indian team, she played a crucial role in MI’s 2023 title-winning campaign. In 16 matches for MI, she claimed seven wickets and scored 126 runs. Her ability to bowl with the new ball and contribute with the bat made her an asset.
Parunika has a tough task ahead, filling in for Vastrakar, while RCB will need to adjust to Sobhana’s absence as they aim to defend their title.
