PCB Denies Rumors of Champions Trophy 2025 Postponement Due to Stadium Renovation

On Tuesday, August 20, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) released a statement clarifying that the Champions Trophy 2025 will proceed as planned, dismissing reports of a postponement as baseless. The rumors emerged following PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi’s critical comments on the current state of Pakistan’s stadiums and the ongoing renovations at venues designated for the Champions Trophy. These remarks sparked speculation on social media about a possible tournament delay due to construction issues.

The PCB press release expressed disappointment with certain media outlets for misrepresenting Naqvi’s statements, falsely suggesting that the Champions Trophy dates might change due to security concerns. The PCB emphasized that Naqvi’s comments were taken out of context and that the stadium redevelopment would be completed on schedule. The board assured that any necessary adjustments, such as moving domestic matches, would not affect the Champions Trophy, which remains a top priority for the PCB.

The PCB also reiterated its commitment to hosting a world-class ICC Champions Trophy in 2025 at three iconic venues in Pakistan. They have already submitted a draft schedule to the International Cricket Council (ICC), with the tournament set to take place from February 19 to March 9, 2025.

In related news, the PCB announced the relocation of the second Test match between Pakistan and Bangladesh, initially set for Karachi, to Rawalpindi Stadium due to logistical issues and ongoing construction. The two-match Test series will begin on August 21.
