PCB Denies Reports of Jason Gillespie Being Removed as Pakistan’s Red-Ball Head Coach

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has strongly denied reports claiming that Jason Gillespie will be removed as Pakistan’s head coach for the red-ball format. In an official statement released on November 17, the PCB reaffirmed its commitment to Gillespie, confirming that he will continue to lead the team for the upcoming two-match Test series against South Africa.

PCB Denies Reports of Jason Gillespie Being Removed as Pakistan's Red-Ball Head Coach

The denial follows rumors that former Pakistan pacer Aqib Javed would replace Gillespie. The PCB responded, clarifying that Gillespie’s position remains unchanged, and he will remain in charge for the South Africa series. The PCB appointed Gillespie as Pakistan’s head coach for the red-ball format in April, offering him a two-year contract.

Some speculation suggested that Gillespie had received an offer to be head coach for both formats, but he reportedly declined. His tenure as interim coach for the ODI and T20I series against Australia, following Gary Kirsten’s sudden resignation, had further fueled the rumors. However, the PCB has made it clear that Gillespie will continue in his role for the Test matches.

Pakistan’s upcoming Test series against South Africa, starting December 26 in Centurion, will be a crucial challenge for Gillespie and the team. The second Test will follow in Cape Town. The series will be important not only for Pakistan’s reputation in the longer format but also as a test of Gillespie’s leadership. Despite challenges in recent limited-overs formats, the PCB has expressed confidence in his ability to guide the team through this pivotal series.
