The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has denied media reports claiming financial losses after hosting the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. PCB clarified that the tournament generated INR 3 billion in revenue, with an additional INR 3 billion expected after the audit.
Recent reports suggested that PCB incurred losses of INR 7,445 crore due to heavy spending on stadium renovations and preparations, amounting to INR 3,320 crore. Reports claimed that hosting fees and ticket sales generated only INR 498 crore in revenue. However, PCB spokesperson Aamir Mir and CFO Javed Murtaza dismissed these claims in a press conference.
Mir explained that all tournament expenses were covered by the ICC, allowing PCB to profit from gate money and ticket sales. He added that the board expects to receive another INR 3 billion after the audit. Mir also credited PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi for strengthening the board’s financial position, noting that PCB’s revenue for the 2023-24 fiscal year had surged to INR 10 billion, reflecting a 40% increase from the previous year. To maintain transparency, PCB announced that all financial details related to the tournament would be available on its official website.
In a surprising move, PCB has reportedly slashed match fees for domestic players by 90% for the upcoming National T20 Cup. According to Geo News, domestic cricketers will now receive only PKR 10,000 per match, down from the previous PKR 40,000. Reserve players will receive just PKR 5,000 per match. Despite the successful hosting of the Champions Trophy, PCB cited financial constraints and budget restructuring as reasons for these cost-cutting measures.
