Arshdeep Singh made a significant impact in the series-opening T20I against England at Eden Gardens on January 22, 2025. The pacer struck early, dismissing Phil Salt for a three-ball duck in just the third delivery of his opening spell. Salt, a key player in England’s top order, fell without scoring after India opted to field first under captain Suryakumar Yadav.

As Arshdeep inches closer to 100 T20I wickets, this match marked his first T20I outing at the iconic Eden Gardens in Kolkata. However, he is no stranger to the venue, having played two IPL matches there for Punjab Kings. Before this international debut at Eden Gardens, Arshdeep’s IPL record at the venue included two wickets in eight overs, conceding 84 runs at an average of 42 and an economy rate of 10.50.
In the first T20I against England, the 25-year-old, soon to be 26, showcased his growth as a bowler. He not only matched his IPL wicket tally at the venue within two overs but also achieved a significant milestone. By dismissing both English openers, Arshdeep surpassed Yuzvendra Chahal to become India’s most successful T20I bowler.
Since his debut in July 2022 against England in Southampton, Arshdeep has played 61 T20Is for India, evolving into a key player for the team. His stellar performance at Eden Gardens further cements his status as a rising star in Indian cricket. With consistent performances, Arshdeep continues to strengthen India’s bowling attack, particularly in high-pressure games.
