Australia commenced their Super 8 campaign with remarkable success, showcasing an exceptional and comprehensive all-round display. At the post-match conference, Australian skipper Pat Cummins, who received the Player of the Match award, admitted that he hadn’t realized he had taken a hat-trick until he saw it displayed on the big screen. Cummins expressed particular satisfaction with dismissing Towhid Hridoy (40 off 28) with the first delivery of the final over, completing his hat-trick and significantly contributing to restricting Bangladesh to a modest total of 140/8.

Pat Cummins’ Hat-Trick Revelation
“I had no idea (about the hat-trick) until I saw it come up on the screen. It was a big wicket (Hridoy’s) as he was a set batter, and happy to have restricted them,” stated Cummins. Remarkably, he became only the second Australian to secure a hat-trick in the T20 World Cup, following Brett Lee, who achieved the same feat against Bangladesh in the inaugural edition of the tournament.
Cummins further discussed Australia’s strong bowling depth, emphasizing the strategic advantage of having Nathan Ellis and Ashton Agar as versatile options who could adapt to different conditions or match scenarios. This depth played a crucial role in Australia’s 28-run victory via the DLS method, driven by explosive batting and exceptional bowling performances. Cummins emphasized the primary objective was to secure a win and expressed satisfaction in achieving this goal in a manner that significantly boosted their net run rate. He expressed optimism that this momentum would propel them further in the tournament.
“Agar and Ellis have been on the bench for us, which shows the depth we have in the bowling unit. It was a fairly polished performance. The goal was to win, and we did well with the run rate. We’ll need to continue with the momentum going ahead in the Super 8s,” added Cummins.
Overall, Australia’s impressive start in the Super 8 stage, highlighted by Cummins’ stellar performance and strategic leadership, sets a strong foundation for their pursuit of the T20 World Cup title.
