Pakistan is set to tour New Zealand for a five-match T20I series, with the first match scheduled for March 16 at Hagley Oval. The team is under pressure after a poor run in international cricket, including an early exit from another ICC event. Their performance in the Champions Trophy 2025 was disappointing, as they failed to win a single match at home. Now, they look to bounce back in the T20I series with several squad changes.

Mohammad Yousuf, Pakistan’s batting consultant, has withdrawn from the tour to be with his ailing daughter. According to Samaa TV, Yousuf informed the PCB about his decision, and the board has decided not to name a replacement. His absence is a setback for the team, which is already dealing with multiple changes.
Pakistan’s squad for the series will be led by Salman Ali Agha after the PCB dropped Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan due to slow over-rate concerns. The selectors have made bold decisions in an attempt to revive Pakistan’s struggling T20I unit.
Before taking up the batting consultant role, Yousuf was part of the seven-member national selection panel. However, he stepped down in 2024, citing personal reasons. Announcing his resignation, he stated, “Serving this incredible team has been a profound privilege, and I am proud to have contributed to Pakistan cricket.”
The team is set to face a tough challenge in New Zealand, and Yousuf’s absence could impact their preparations. However, the PCB remains hopeful that the new-look squad can deliver a strong performance and turn things around.
