New Zealand coach Gary Stead confirmed O’Rourke’s injury, sidelining him for two to four weeks, with Sears being his replacement. Stead dismissed any consideration of recalling Neil Wagner, who recently retired, stating Sears’ similar attributes and recent success against Australia made him the preferred choice.
Conway sustained a fractured thumb in the second T20I against Australia, requiring surgery. The procedure will sideline him for eight weeks, effectively ruling him out of the IPL’s early matches. However, Conway’s recovery timeline ensures his availability for the T20 World Cup in June.
