New Zealand names team for T20I match against England women, Suzie Bates to captain without Kerr, Devine

Kerr, celebrated at the New Zealand Cricket Awards, encountered travel issues returning from her stint with the Mumbai Indians in the Women’s Premier League (WPL 2024) in India. Consequently, both Kerr and Sophie Devine will miss the opening T20I against England due to ongoing WPL commitments and travel challenges.

NZC confirmed Kerr’s exclusion due to travel issues stemming from her participation in the WPL. Devine, crucial for RCB-W, faces a similar situation but may return after the WPL final. Georgia Plimmer joins to fill Kerr’s void, with another NZ A player expected to join later.

With Suzie Bates leading in Devine’s stead, Coach Ben Sawyer regrets the absence but sees it as a chance for others to shine against England. Sawyer trusts Plimmer’s experience to make an impact in the opener. “It’s disappointing not to have Melie or Sophie with us for the series opener,” Sawyer expressed, noting the team’s preparedness. Both teams face player absences due to WPL commitments, yet they anticipate a thrilling match to exhibit depth and resilience.
