Islamabad United staged a sensational run chase against Multan Sultans in the PSL, spearheaded by Colin Munro and captain Shadab Khan, securing their spot in the playoffs in a thrilling encounter on Sunday.
Munro’s explosive 84 off just 40 balls and Shadab’s impressive 54 off 31 deliveries set the tone for Islamabad United’s remarkable chase. Their partnership of 141 runs was crucial in steering United towards their target of 233 runs. Imad Wasim’s unbeaten 30 further propelled United to victory, as they reached 232 for 7 to seal a three-wicket win in their final league game. With this win, United concluded the league stage with 11 points from ten matches.
On the other hand, Multan Sultans, despite the loss, maintained their position at the top of the table with 12 points and a game in hand. Their innings was anchored by Usman Khan’s outstanding century, scoring an unbeaten 100 off just 50 balls. Usman’s dominant knock included 15 boundaries and three sixes, forming crucial partnerships with Johnson Charles (42) and Iftikhar Ahmed (13).
However, United faced early setbacks in their chase, with Alex Hales and Agha Salman departing early. But Munro and Shadab’s partnership revived their innings, taking on Multan’s bowlers, including leading wicket-taker Usama Mir and Chris Jordan.
Ultimately, United’s determined batting effort propelled them to a memorable victory, ensuring their qualification for the playoffs in the PSL.
