MS Dhoni, the veteran wicketkeeper-batsman for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), endured a rare moment of misfortune during Match 46 of IPL 2024 against the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium. While attempting a challenging catch on Sunday, the 42-year-old appeared to be in pain after his effort went in vain.
The incident unfolded in the 13th over of CSK’s innings. Shardul Thakur, bowling for CSK, sent a full delivery outside the off-stump to the dangerous Abdul Samad. Samad, known for his aggressive batting, attempted a powerful drive but only managed to get a thick edge on the ball, sending it flying behind the stumps.
Dhoni, showcasing his usual agility, dived forward in an attempt to grab the catch. However, the ball eluded his grasp, leaving him visibly frustrated. Adding to the disappointment, Dhoni seemed to experience some pain following the unsuccessful dive. Despite the discomfort, he continued his duties behind the stumps, demonstrating his dedication to the team.
Meanwhile, SRH’s chase of CSK’s formidable total has faltered significantly. As of writing, they find themselves in a precarious position at 124/7 after 17.1 overs. With only Pat Cummins (5) and Shahbaz Ahmed (2) remaining at the crease, the required run rate seems insurmountable. SRH needs a mammoth 89 runs off a mere 17 balls to secure an improbable victory.
