Mickey Arthur, head of cricket at Derbyshire, will take on a new role as director of cricket at Northern Superchargers. While Derbyshire had a challenging 2024 season, finishing at the bottom of the County Championship with just one win in 14 matches, Arthur’s experience is highly valued. His time as Pakistan’s team director adds to his reputation, making him an attractive addition to the Superchargers setup.
Arthur will work alongside Northern Superchargers’ head coaches, Andrew Flintoff and Lisa Keightley, offering advice on recruitment and supporting the coaching staff. Despite his involvement with the Superchargers, Derbyshire has emphasized that his role will be “largely hands-off,” and he will remain committed to the club during the Metro Bank One-Day Cup, which overlaps with The Hundred.
Arthur expressed that Derbyshire remains his primary focus, with his commitment to achieving success for the club unchanged. He also noted that the opportunity to work with the Superchargers would benefit players and coaches by developing their skills in new environments.
Ryan Duckett, Derbyshire’s CEO, reinforced Arthur’s dedication to the club. He praised the work done behind the scenes at Derbyshire, citing players like Wayne Madsen, Zak Chappell, and Harry Moore for their success. Duckett also emphasized that Derbyshire’s squad has been preparing intensively for the 2025 season and is ready for an exciting summer ahead.
Arthur’s dual role allows him to contribute to both Derbyshire’s and Northern Superchargers’ success, using his experience and expertise to guide both teams in the upcoming seasons.
