Glenn Maxwell Overtakes Fellow Australian to Become Second in Most Sixes in BBL

In the sixth match of the Big Bash League (BBL) 2024, played between Adelaide Strikers and Melbourne Stars at Adelaide Oval on December 20, Glenn Maxwell made history by becoming the second-most six-hitter in BBL history. Maxwell, who was playing for Melbourne Stars, hit two massive sixes in a quickfire cameo of 15 runs from 5 balls. With this, he surpassed Ben McDermott, who had 123 sixes, and now stands at 125 sixes. He is only behind Chris Lynn, who leads the chart with 208 sixes.

Chris Lynn remains at the top with 208 sixes from 120 matches, while Maxwell, in 109 matches, has now accumulated 125. McDermott is in third place with 123 sixes from 94 matches. Other notable players on the list include Aaron Finch (118 sixes from 107 matches) and Alex Hales (107 sixes from 78 matches).

Maxwell’s innings ended quickly when Henry Thornton dismissed him in the 7th over. Thornton bowled a full-length ball on the stumps, which Maxwell missed and got struck in front of middle-stump. The umpire raised his finger, ending Maxwell’s brief but impactful innings.

Earlier in the match, Melbourne Stars won the toss and opted to bowl first. Adelaide Strikers initially struggled, with openers Matthew Short and Jake Weatherald failing to contribute much against the disciplined bowling of Adam Milne and Maxwell.
