Mumbai Indians continued their dominance over Gujarat Giants with a comfortable five-wicket win in WPL 2025. This victory marked Mumbai’s first win of the season and extended their unbeaten record against the Giants to 5-0.

After winning the toss, Mumbai chose to bowl, and their bowlers set the tone early. Hayley Matthews (3-16) and Sciver-Brunt (2-19) dismantled the Giants’ top order, restricting them to just 120. The Giants suffered a disastrous powerplay, slumping to 28 for 4, their lowest of the season. Harleen Deol fought back with 32 off 31, but wickets kept falling at regular intervals. Kashvee Gautam’s 20 provided brief resistance, but Giants could not finish strongly. Amelia Kerr (2-22) and Shabnim Ismail (1-18) maintained tight lines, ensuring Mumbai remained in control.

Chasing 121, Mumbai lost Matthews early, but Sciver-Brunt took charge. She struck a fluent 57 off 39 balls, mixing power with precision. Her partnerships with Yastika Bhatia and Kerr ensured Mumbai remained steady despite losing a few wickets. With the game nearly won, G Kamalini struck a boundary on debut, and S Sajana finished it off in style.

With this win, Mumbai moved to second on the points table, while Giants, now with a negative net run rate, remained in third. The defeat meant Giants are yet to beat Mumbai in the WPL.
