Pakistan cricket is set for major coaching staff changes following their disappointing performance in the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy. Reports suggest interim head coach Aaqib Javed and his support team will be dismissed after Pakistan’s early tournament exit.
Pakistan’s Champions Trophy Exit

Pakistan’s semi-final hopes were dashed after consecutive group-stage defeats to New Zealand and India. They lost to New Zealand by 60 runs and to India by six wickets, leaving their qualification chances dependent on other results. However, their hopes ended when Bangladesh failed to beat New Zealand, leading to Pakistan’s elimination.
PCB Plans Major Changes
A PCB source, quoted by PTI, revealed that discussions are underway about restructuring the selection committee. The Board of Governors will soon deliberate on this issue. While the option of separate red and white-ball coaches remains, the immediate focus is on appointing new leadership and support staff.
“The PCB, after the resignations of Gary Kirsten and Jason Gillespie, may struggle to secure foreign coaches. Instead, they are likely to turn to former players for these roles,” the source stated.
This early exit is a major disappointment, as the tournament marked the first ICC event in Pakistan since 1996. The PCB had high expectations but now faces the urgent task of finding capable replacements for outgoing coaches. Given the past year’s instability in coaching appointments, the board is expected to accelerate the hiring process before Pakistan’s upcoming tour of New Zealand next month.
