All-rounder Kyle Mayers is set to join the West Indies squad ahead of their last Super Eight fixture against South Africa on June 24.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has approved Kyle Mayers as the replacement for opener Brandon King in the West Indies’ T20 World Cup squad. King suffered a side strain while batting during their first Super Eight match against England, forcing him to retire hurt when he was on 23 off just 13 balls. He missed the subsequent game against the USA on June 22, with Shai Hope taking his place. King’s T20 World Cup 2024 campaign concluded with 86 runs from five matches.
Mayers, who has played 18 Tests, 28 ODIs, and 37 T20Is since his international debut in November 2020, will join the team before their crucial match against South Africa. In T20Is, he has scored 727 runs at an average of 21.38 and a strike rate of 140.62, including three half-centuries. He is also a useful medium pacer, having taken 34 wickets in Tests and 14 in ODIs, though he has yet to take a wicket in T20Is.
The West Indies entered the Super Eight stage with four consecutive wins in the first round against Papua New Guinea, Uganda, New Zealand, and Afghanistan. After losing to England in their opening Super Eight match, they bounced back with a nine-wicket victory over the USA. As two-time champions, they aim to win their final Super Eight clash against South Africa and boost their chances of reaching the semifinals.
