Keshav Maharaj has consistently proven himself as a top performer for South Africa across all formats in recent years. Known for his reliability and ability to thrive under pressure, Maharaj has also captained the team in shorter formats. In the second Test against the West Indies, he achieved a historic milestone by becoming South Africa’s leading wicket-taker among spinners, surpassing Hugh Tayfield’s record of 170 wickets from 37 Tests between 1949 and 1960. Maharaj now holds 171 wickets in 52 Test matches.

Maharaj’s impressive record highlights his adaptability across various conditions. His standout performance in the two-match Test series against the West Indies earned him the ‘Player of the Series’ award, with a total of 13 wickets across four innings. In the first Test at Queen’s Park Oval, he claimed eight wickets, while in the second Test at Providence Stadium, he took five wickets on a pace-friendly pitch.
South Africa secured a 40-run victory in the low-scoring second Test, clinching the series 1-0 after the first Test ended in a draw. Maharaj’s achievements not only underscore his skill but also solidify his status as a crucial player for South Africa.
