Kane Williamson, Not Picked for IPL, to Captain London Spirit in The Hundred 2025

Kane Williamson has signed with London Spirit to play and captain the franchise in The Hundred 2025 season. The veteran New Zealand batter, who went unsold at the IPL 2025 mega auction last November, will make his debut in the ECB’s 100-ball tournament later this year. Williamson replaces Dan Lawrence as captain after London Spirit’s disappointing finish at the bottom of the points table last season. The franchise confirmed Williamson’s signing on February 17 through their social media channels.

The upcoming season of The Hundred is set to begin on August 5, with London Spirit facing Oval Invincibles at the iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground in London. This season will mark Williamson’s first stint in the tournament, which launched in 2021 to bring a fresh, fast-paced format to English cricket.

A seasoned T20 campaigner, Williamson has played 262 T20 matches, amassing 6,675 runs at an average of 31.93. His experience in English conditions is notable, having played 39 matches in the Vitality T20 Blast since his debut in 2011. Williamson has also featured in 93 T20 internationals for New Zealand, leading the side in 75 of those matches. In the IPL, he represented Sunrisers Hyderabad and Gujarat Titans across 79 matches.

Most recently, the 34-year-old played for Durban’s Super Giants in the SA20 2025 season. As Williamson prepares for his new role with London Spirit, he is also getting ready for the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2025 in Pakistan and the UAE.
