Bangladesh cricket has taken an important step forward as the board approved a significant increase in salaries and match fees for both men’s and women’s domestic players. This marks the first major decision by the newly formed ad-hoc committee led by Tamim Iqbal.
The biggest improvement has come in women’s cricket, where players were previously earning extremely low match fees. Tamim was surprised to learn that women cricketers received only BDT 1,000 per match in domestic competitions. Under the new structure, match fees have increased sharply: BDT 10,000 for T20 matches, BDT 15,000 for 50-over games, and BDT 20,000 for first-class matches. Additionally, the monthly salaries of the top 36 women players have been raised from BDT 30,000 to BDT 40,000.
Tamim acknowledged that while this increase is a positive step, more improvements are still needed in the future. He emphasized that financial limits restrict how much can be raised at once, but the current revision is a meaningful start.
Men’s domestic cricketers have also benefited from the new pay structure. Category A players will now earn BDT 65,000 per month, while Category B and C players will receive BDT 50,000 and BDT 40,000 respectively. First-class match fees have also been increased from BDT 70,000 to BDT 100,000.
Tamim highlighted that players had been underpaid for years despite their hard work and contribution to the sport. He stressed that fair compensation is essential for the growth of cricket.
The revised salary system will come into effect from January 1, 2026. Alongside this, the board is also working to resolve issues with club teams and aims to resume the Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League soon.
