South African pacer Kagiso Rabada has overtaken Jasprit Bumrah to claim the No.1 position in the ICC Men’s Test Bowling Rankings. Rabada’s recent performances, particularly his dominance against Bangladesh, have secured his return to the top spot, displacing Bumrah and marking a career milestone. In the first Test against Bangladesh at the Sher-E-Bangla Cricket Stadium, the 29-year-old bowler took his 300th Test wicket, dismantling the opposition’s lineup with a nine-wicket haul across both innings. This achievement not only contributed to his team’s success but also lifted Rabada three places in the rankings, surpassing Bumrah, Josh Hazlewood, and Ravichandran Ashwin.

This isn’t Rabada’s first time atop the ICC rankings; he initially held the No.1 position in January 2018 and remained within the top 10 after briefly relinquishing the top spot in February 2019. Now, with 860 rating points, Rabada reclaims the No.1 rank as a crucial player for South Africa in the ongoing ICC World Test Championship. Following Rabada, Australia’s Josh Hazlewood stands in second place with 847 points, while India’s Jasprit Bumrah is just behind with 846. Ravichandran Ashwin and Pat Cummins round out the top five with 831 and 820 points, respectively.
Rabada’s return to the No.1 spot underscores his enduring impact and consistency in Test cricket, reflecting years of high-level performances. As the World Test Championship unfolds, Rabada’s leadership in South Africa’s bowling attack provides them with a significant competitive edge on the international stage, highlighting his vital role and remarkable career journey.
