Josh Hazlewood to Miss Australia’s T20I Series Against Scotland; Here’s Why

Australian cricket faces a setback as key pacer Josh Hazlewood is set to miss the upcoming T20I series against Scotland due to a calf injury sustained during training last week. Despite this, reports from ESPNcricinfo suggest Hazlewood is expected to recover in time for Australia’s white-ball series against England.

Josh Hazlewood to Miss Australia's T20I Series Against Scotland; Here's Why

Riley Meredith will step in for Hazlewood in the T20Is against Scotland. This series marks Meredith’s return to the Australian squad for the first time since 2021, offering him a significant opportunity to prove his skills in T20 cricket. Meredith’s selection comes at a crucial time, as Australia deals with multiple injuries. Spencer Johnson has also been ruled out due to an injury he sustained during The Hundred competition.

With Hazlewood and Johnson out, Australia will travel with an inexperienced bowling attack for the Scotland series. The bowling unit will be led by Xavier Bartlett, Sean Abbott, and Nathan Ellis. In Pat Cummins’ absence, who is resting ahead of Australia’s challenging schedule, Mitch Marsh will captain the side.

The three-match T20I series against Scotland is set to begin on September 4 in Edinburgh. After the Scotland series, Australia will face England in a white-ball series to regain momentum. This series will help them prepare for the challenging fixtures ahead.
